Erotic Excerpts gives the Sorcha's Heart cover a big thumbs up

Ah! This is great to see. I visit a Yahoo group and what pops up? The cover of Sorcha's Heart right on the home page.

Erotic Excerpts' Kimmy said "The beauty of this cover is magical, and I would buy it on that alone."

Yay! Author Debbie Mumford is thrilled and still bopping at her work place, trying not to make too much noise. I'll make some home for you, Debbie!

You respect your favourite authors, right? Don't you?

Or do you love them so irresponsibly you'd willingly cut their throats?

http://bicknell-brown.blogspot.com/2006/09/writers-dreams.html

Read that. It's a valid topic. I already left my own comment in the blog.

Erotic Dreams has a new page

There's a new page on the Erotic Dreams site. With author agreement, some serial stories have been compiled into a single file for downloading. The Beast in Beauty novella is one of them. You must have a Zine membership to download, but the membership is free and so are these downloads.

I'm messing about with my own cover art for the follow up novel of Beast. The working title is now The Mouth of the World.

Another reminder! Get Keith's Goat Contest is almost over. And you don't need to be a Zine member to participate in this one, so click that linkie!

Ah yeah. That feels good.

I'm still around. Couldn't think what to post lately. I'm so busy.

I only just finished the second pass of a novel with a talented author who's very good to work with. She's a sweetie with a penchant for beating the crap out of her heros. Love her.

Off to the proofreader goes that manuscript.

This was my second editing job for FB/WCP, and it was a learning experience once again. I overestimated the deadline when I did Sorcha's Heart with Debbie Mumford, and we got that done really quick. But then I underestimated with Soul Haven (author Sonja Baines), and I had to put the target off from beginning of September to mid-September, and now I'm five days later than that. It really is a guessing game, how much time these things will take. It's dependant on so many factors. But I suppose I'll get the hang of it, after a bit more experience -- spot trouble areas and guestimate how much work a story will require.

Sonja's story is a full novel. I had to take longer for that reason alone. Given that we started August 9, and finished only a month and a half later, roughly, not too shabby our progress. We burned, baby! Well done, Sonja!

And the proofreaders have it now. Woot! Should see this story on the Wild Child shelf soon. :D

The Power of Two
by Mychael Black & Shayne Carmichael

As a vampire Master, Dominic has been eyeing his old friend Griffith for quite a while. But being a Master in his own right, Grif resisted the notion of Dominic controlling him in any way. With startling skill, Dominic sets out to change that refusal. He has his own deep interest in him, born of watching Grif's submission at the hand of another Master. Even though Dominic can't help but toy with his old friend, in truth, he wants him only as an equal. But how to convince Grif without letting his guard down is Dominic's biggest issue.

Aware of some of that interest but not the reason for it, Grif has his own secret. His trust had been violated by his own vampire Master, and since that night, he's refused to let another dominate him. And he'd sworn to himself that no one ever would.

Woot!

So my first two novels in the Loved Him to Death series have been contracted to Freya's Bower. The manuscripts did a little house to house shuffle recently. Won't get into why, but it had nothing to do with rejections or bad feelings. It was a business decision, I guess. But now the set is with Freya's. No idea the pub date. My editor is a busy lady, but that's ok. So am I lately.

Anyhow, Loved Him has a home. That's what matters.

Now to finish Loved Him 3, The Pearl, the Beast in Beauty sequel novel, Tristan, and The Sun God -- not necessarily in that order. Oh, my.

I think The Pearl will be first. Yeah. Definitely, The Pearl.

Ha! It ain't just me!

I am not the only person out there with a gun ready to shoot the word "as" on sight whenever I see it used for timing.

John walked across the road as (kabooom!--22 caliber bullet) the long train rolled into the station ahead. He lit a cigarette as (kerplow!--magnum, borrowed from some P.I. on television) Jill stepped down onto the platform. She blew him a kiss as (SPLISH! Whoops. Jill is dead. Shouldn't have used a scythe. Not good for precise excisions.) Jane blew him a kiss when she noticed him coming across the street. John smiled and gave her a kiss as (CHOINK! That was a bomb landing on John, unfortunately. On the good side, the bomb failed to blow, saving the scene from complete disaster.) Jerry smiled and gave her a kiss when he arrived at her side. Jane waved to her friends on board as (!)

Well, they're all just dead. Everyone on the street and in the train. Since none of them actually heard that atom bomb, I didn't bother writing the sound in.

Ok. Who else besides me guns for overuse of "as" (kerplink-BB gun)? Well, my bosses do.

Hooray! I am vindicated this evening. Some "as" (twonk—small hand axe) is ok, but not a slew. Unless you want to have critics using your novel for target practice.

Use "as" (ssssssss--acid) for timing only in small quantities. Small quantities. Balance. Balance your syntax. Repetitive sentence construction will ruin a good story, make it look as though (no that was not a timing word!) a junior high student wrote it. So stop plugging paragraphs full of this word. Try to stretch your writing skills. Yeah. Strettttch!

My next weapon, a rack. But I suppose that'll only give me a whole lot of asses.

Back to projectile weapons and sharp edges.

COMPUTER GAMES
By: Tammy Lee

Daria has a secret lover with dark secret of his own that she can
never reveal, except to a fanatical few on-line who would love to
believe the fun-loving chat room joker was telling the truth.

Excerpt:

"Ha ha, very funny. Tell them you'll be back later." He smiled, and
pinched through the cotton. He watched as she wiggled, laughing,
squirming, trying to ignore the impossible-to ignore fingers that
worked their way around her breasts. "Tell them, or I'll have to
throw you over the desktop and do you while you type." He pushed her
forward until she was on her feet and he threw back her chair, which
glided on its casters halfway across the room.

Standing behind her, he caressed her back as she continued to type;
now it was a competition to see if it would be possible for her to
continue her on-screen conversation while he worked his magic behind
her. His hands slid up under her shirt and ran back down her sides,
thrusting her jogging pants to the floor in one swift motion. He
squeezed her bottom and she moaned, but kept on typing and
continuing the conversation as if nothing out of the ordinary was
happening. Of course, to be completely correct, this wasn't exactly
an unusual situation.

Just another one of their games.

EXCERPT:

"Dude, you look like hell."

Morgan grumbled and buried himself lower in the recliner's plush cushions.

Alec raised an eyebrow at him quizzically. "You didn't sleep much, did you?" he asked, taking a sip of his coffee.

"No."

Alec sighed. "Morgan, what's wrong?"

"If I tell you, you've got to promise me that you won't say a fucking word to my parents." When Alec set his cup down on the coffee table slowly, Morgan knew he had his cousin's attention. "I think I met someone," he said quietly as he stared into his own mug, the black coffee cold and untouched.

"And?" Alec prodded. "Who is she?"

Morgan sighed again. "That's the catch, Alec-it's not 'she.'" Alec's eyes grew wide as saucers and Morgan couldn't help but laugh. "I know, I know. I've sat up all night anticipating some smartass remark from you."

Alec sat in stunned silence.

"No comment?" Morgan asked with a sheepish grin.

"W-well," Alec stammered, "I honestly don't know what to say. How did you meet him?"

Morgan knew he couldn't even begin to explain that one truthfully. "I met him at the new nightclub down the street."

"Does he feel the same?"

"Well," Morgan said, remembering the gaze which had held him so mesmerized the night before, "he doesn't know how I feel. To be honest, Alec, I don't even know how I feel." He looked up and met his cousin's hazel gaze.

"Well, how do you feel when you're around him? Or have you really been near enough to him?"

"Not exactly. I saw him at the club, from the other side of the room," Morgan explained, telling only half the truth. "But he hasn't left my thoughts since. I see his face everywhere. I hear his voice when I'm awake, when I'm asleep. My God, Alec, I'm obsessed with another man and I've never even been with one."

Alec nodded. "I know. Look, Morgan, I honestly don't know what to tell you. Do you know anything about him?"

Morgan looked back down into his coffee. "His name is Ashley."

"Do you think you love him?"

"How can I love someone without even knowing them?"

Alec grinned. "Love at first sight?"

Morgan groaned and closed his eyes.

"What does he look like?"

Now there was a question he could answer truthfully. Morgan smiled and without opening his eyes, he said, "he's the most beautiful person I've ever seen. He's taller than me and slender. He has white hair down to his waist. He's young, maybe my age or a little younger. But his eyes, Alec; my God, his eyes are mesmerizing. They're the color of the clouds, the palest gray."

"Hm," Alec mused. "Sounds to me like someone has fallen in love."

Morgan opened his eyes and narrowed his gaze. "I don't know what it is," he said, "but it's driving me crazy. I can't get him out of my head and I don't know how to find him."

"What do you want, Morgan? What do you really want?"

Morgan looked his cousin in the eye. "I want Ashley."
